Well it seems to me that there are many different types of intelligence and thinking, you need to find the ones that work best for you.
I remember maths and physics formulas using martial arts combinations (kinesthetic intelligence).
Double jab, double right punch, two hooks, back away from opponent, cross, cross, left mid level roundhouse kick
Thats the cosine rule I think.

Also you could try turning information into a song (musical), arguing about the topic with someone (interpersonal), mind maps (visual/spacial)... seeing if you can explain it to someone else is also a good way to see if youve learned something.
