It has become very fashionable to criticize grappling arts for their shortcomings regarding multiple attacker situations.

Just mention BJJ to anyone even vaugely familiar with MA and they'll automatically shout in your face... "That stuff will get you killed because of multiple attackers!!! They ground is the last place you want to be in a real fight!!!".

I guess these people have seen too many Steven Segal movies.

Other than gang initiations, I've NEVER seen a 1on<1 fight were the 1 didn't get grabbed, held, or dragged to the ground.

I've been in two 1on<1 fights and both times the largest guy did the grabbing and the smaller one did the beating.

Which martial arts address Bearhug from behind escape, Rear naked choke from behind escape, headlock escapes, mount escapes?

Those are the one's I'd study for REAL self-defense.
