training consistancy and rest
I'm new to the forums but not to martial arts. For the past while, most of my time has been spent running for cross-country but now i want to start working out the rest of my body. The bottom line is that I want to be stronger and faster. I've been doing sets of pushups, pullups, chinups, punches with dumbells, and ab workouts (I like body weight workouts for some reason) but I don't know much about how the workouts are supposed to go. If I have the whole day should I spread the sets out over the whole day and work for more reps per set or should I do them all at once with one or two minutes rests between sets? For punches, should I go fast or slow? Slow taxes muscles more but feels like it's doing more.
Any advice is appreciated and if you suggest things about my pullups or chinups please specify which you're talking about in terms of overhand or underhand because I've been confused as to which is which (always thought chinups were overhand).
also what about doing a set of pushup, then a set of pullup, then an ab workout, then back to pushups? What is the best way to plan your sets?
