We had a dude like that. I never sparred with him, never saw him spar, but when you mentioned his name the instructors at his school they looked at you like you had lost your damn mind. I trained at a branch of 1 of 3 schools in a about a 40 mile radius. He trained at the main school so only saw him a few times but there was nothing impressive looking about him.
I asked my instructor about him one day and he broke it down for me. He obviously had a foreign accent which I came to learn was Russian. He served 10 years in a special forces type sect of the Soviet Army before the end of the cold war. He was apparently one of those guys that was freakishly strong, and would take 6 shots(exaggerating, but you get the point) to the head in order to land a blow. Thing is, he was one of the quietest guys I've ever meet. He didn't act like Tommy Tuff Nuts or anything, he just pretty much minded his business. Something scary about that.
