Your words ring true. I do not agree with my words, "If a child steps in a mans place...KNOCK HIM OUT!"
Those were words of fear and anger. Fear of a legal inability to defend the law abider from the criminal element, and anger as to the fact that I placed myself in a possibly fatal position in order to avoid potential legal ramifications...
Anyhow, it was a "win" as all survived the encounter unscaved (minus a few bruised ribs and a lump on my head)...the patrons continued to enjoy their evening, and the criminal (uh, I mean suspect...dont call the lawyers) went to the local youth detention facility!
