I checked out the thread when you first posted it. Good stuff. The percentage of fights going to the ground sounds about right to me. From what i've seen first hand, this usually occurs out of fatigue more so than any great design or plan. If a fight makes it past the first minuet or so and the desire to fight is still there by both parties, exaustion sets in and sloppy technique causes a fall to the ground more often than any planned take down or throw. Obviously there are exceptions to this, mainly the backround and fighting style. But with over 25 years of grappling under my belt(wrestling, sambo, bjj ect) I wouldn't go to the ground in a fight unless I absolutely had to, then only using some kind of tuite jitsu that transitions from stand up to ground. Even with this, I'd do almost anything I could to get back up to my feet as safely and quickly as possible.
