Overall, I'd say that fewer women have had "the eye of the tiger", but as the sample set is so much smaller than the guys I've trained with, it's hard to say. Some of the best form I've seen has come from girls, but still....I don't think they're hitting as hard as I do, and I'm not a big guy.

I don't have any problems with training with women except the double standard that always gets applied. I think if you are in a system with rankings, the tests for those rankings should be equally difficult for man or woman. I would expect a woman testing for black belt in our kenpo society to execute the same kicks, throws, take-downs, ect that a guy would.

I'm not saying that they have to be as strong, just as skilled.

I agree 100%. Why should there be a difference? Self defense is self defense. If your school has seperate rules for the women, how are they learning to defend themselves? If they only spar with other women, what is that going to prove? Ability at Point sparring means nothing on the street. Women can develop their technique to be just as effective as a man at defending herself on the street. In the ring where there are rules and boundaries, it is another story. In a real fight, you use all the dirty tricks that would never be allowed in sport fighting.

It is also possible for a woman to develop power that will knock you out of your shoes (Training Iron palm is a good start). I agree that most women lack the power that a man has. This is why it is important to train technique and strike soft targets that don't require a lot of power to be effective.
