Yes, you should test your skills in a BJJ club. if you tap the blue belts then you have a chance to be considered for blue belt.

But my club will expect you to tap the other blue belts in an open tournaments also.

No, there is no belt test, Bjj belts are awarded on performance.
You just do not 'sit' an exam to demonstrate an armbar for e.g.
You still have to demonstrate techniques during graduation exam but it is just for the form.

Be ready for the 'belting' during graduation lol
