The fact that you don't see CMA fighters on ESPN2 (ever, from what I've watched ... and very, very little in the UFC) was part of the basis for my original question. I was wondering if anyone had ever seen real CMA stylists in real competitions, or fighting in a streetfight. Looks some of you have, which is cool, and I appreciate the anecdotes.
But it just seems a little ususual to me that some of the CMAs that have been around for so many years *wouldn't* appear in MMA competitions more often.
Does this mean that CMAs are not effective in that type of forum (cage fighting with some rules), or does it mean that they're not effective against a more "complete" fighter? Someone who has crossed-trained in BJJ and MT, for example.
Or, does it mean nothing more than most CMA fighters simply choosing not to participate in those competitions?
