The cones and rods in your eyes that transmit the various wavelengths in the light spectrum that you percieve as all the THINGS in the world can trick your brain into "seeing" almost anything you can imagine.
I see a static discharge when I rub my feet on the carpet and touch something that is grounded. That is real. What you are seeing is likely a trick of your eye. You would probably see the same effect if you stare at anything long enough with the expectation to see a "spark"...
