What works for ME?...well, I think;
Boxing works. Muay thai works. Krabbi Krabong, silat and all the FMA's work. JKD...yes, jun fan gung fu...less. CSW, shooto, and BJJ rule the ground.
mix them all...and you'll have a good ability to transition between ranges of unarmed, edged, and impact weapons fights.

LOL I remember in HS a guy that would just swing is arms like a windmill... It was funny but it scared a few of the kids that used to make him mad for fun.
I like the way you present your opinion here G man. If I might add a little story to it for your enjoyment.
I started Judo when I was 16. I trained in the regular sport style with the rest of the class and was eager to dive into the SD and combative application of the art so after a year or so I asked to join his adult students. I was a small but strong 135 # and thought for sure I had the basics down well enough to hold my own or at least break my falls well enough to avoid serious injury. And I was right. Since then I have found my Judo in Kali, I found Judo in Silat (Bhakti Negara and others) I found Judo in JKD and it turns out I also found Judo in BJJ (Imagine my surprise! )
