Yeah, this is the attitude I would expect from maybe one of those stereotypical BJJ juiceheads, but a TKD traditional MA guy? Life's not all about fighting and such, don't they teach you that?

And another thing...you can swing hard to bring the back leg turning kick out, but it is MUCH easier to extend far, making it a distance weapon. After that, you have the option of pushing forward to close for hand combinations, or for a tournament, clinch to prevent a counterattack. Another option is to strike Muay Thai style...sorta baseball bat strike it, follow through, and bring it back to where you were by spnning. Doing so allows for an easy back kick, back hook kick, etc. as you've already got plenty of rotational momentum. The point of the second option is that you briefly extend into range, pull back out, while the rotational momentum sets you up for a more devastating blow if they get pissed and try to charge in for their own counter.

So no, the front leg isn't always better. The front leg kick can't extend quite as far, or with the same "out of the blue" factor as the back leg.

Another thing, TKD isn't about being so fast that your fastest kick is lightning fast so they can't even see it coming. While it's a nice thought, it's not going to happen against a trained fighter. So you need to give some thought to set ups, feints, etc. For example, a turning kick turns into a hook kick(aka reverse snap/turning kick) very quickly, and basically switches the path it takes to the opponent's head in a split second, while it uses a very similar initial movement.
