I think this is true for most people, myself included. Sure I pull off a calf crush or a wierd arm lock, but to be honest, the strait armbar is my baby, and the RNC is my other primary weapon.

Nobody can expect to rely mainly on crazy toe holds and eddie bravo's twister. Some moves just come up more than others, and while its awesome to be abel to throw some strange moves to use as confusing mix-ups or to use in strange positions that come up, the basics are the bread and butter. The armbar is a submission that is far more likely to come up than a banana split, and an RNC is essentially the most effective, common, and secure move in submission wrestling.

You can stil have style while sticking to the basics, but its always good to be versed in varied submissions to barrage the enemy and be able to deal with new body mechanics and expand you knowledge of grappling in general.
