Pentjak Silat Gayong practitioners have used boiling oil in rituals of "invulnerability" since the 1940's. By dipping their hands into a cauldron of boiling oil (mandi minyak) they test their faith. Powerful war magic and prayers are said to prevent injury. 
A modern twist on this is an extremeist muslim cult known as the brotherhood of inner power. (Al Ma'unah) Members claim to follow the teachings of the Koran and a cleric named Amin Razali.
