In the course of these 2 movies it seems like jaa has really risen to the ranks of other martial arts superstars like jackie & jet li, but I think his cheoreography really has alot of subtle homages to them as well as people like Bruce Lee. I think another interesting thing about jaas cheoreography is that he can actually perform alot of the fights from ong bak as live performances, sometimes you have to wonder if they are actually hitting eachother. |
I disagree with Tony Jaa being a lot like Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee would have never shown fancy jump spinning kicks in the air. Tony Jaa is more about demostrating style and athletic ability more than actually creating a fight scene. Bruce Lee was about showcasing the concept of Jeet Kune Do and his speed and power in a much more realistic way. Jackie Chan is about creativity. He shows you things like no one have ever seen before in a fight movie. Jet Li is about showcasing traditional grace and power of martial arts. As for the live performance, I think you can see clearly they are not hitting each other. In the movie, I am not so sure.
