i think the reason the match may have appeared 'friendly' is because the mt guy was incredibly relaxed the whole time. it didn't look like he ever felt he was in any danger of getting hit with anything punishing.

i said the format was more tkd than mt, it's right there in the line you quoted from my post. maybe i'm wrong, it's certainly happened before. but are there any techniques commonly used in tkd competition that were prohibited in this match? didn't look like it to me. on the other hand, it seemed the only concession to mt rules was to allow kick catches, while 3 staples of the mt fighter - knees, elbows, and the clinch - appeared to be prohibited. that's what leads me to say this match was more tkd than mt.
