Many systems of tkd do not use hands to the head in sparring. Some however do.
I believe I said the same thing myself already;
Quote:
'Hands to the head' are uncommon in 'point stop', but more frequent in 'continuous', at least internally.

Again, I'm drawn to point out the pre-arranged sporting context of this match for anyone who doesn't find it obvious.
There are stoppages due to blows going in 'disallowed' by the ruleset.

as excessiveforce pointed out if you have not trained punches to the head, you are poorly prepared.
Absolutely, but to dismiss all TKD based on one clip, or even several, is ridiculous.
You don't get your arms chopped off when you start TKD, nor do you get your brain removed.

It is funny to me that while TKD sparring with no head contact is criticized,
no one seems to notice that type of sparring plays a large role in KyoKushin, which is one of the most reknowned and respected Karate schools worldwide.
It's been noticed I assure you.

The key thing to me is;
The majority of people have not gone toe to toe with a good athlete who practices TKD.
TKD is probably the most popular shopping mall MA there ever was.
Naturally you'll find the majority of practitioners are garbage, merely by law of average.

If, like many, you support the idea that choosing a particular MA somehow miraculously makes you a better fighter than someone who practices another, then you need your head examined, as it's not what you do, but how you do it.

What's a "better fighter" anyway?
Someone who wins sporting contests?
