Naturally there is no "better" art considering they all have advantages and disadvantages.
What style of TKD were you training and for how long?
I myself have been doing WTF Taekwondo for 5½ years and I love it. Great club and it works perfect as self defense for me.
We have Hapkido in the same club too... gotta say it looks really cool, but I'll stick with TKD until 1 Dan the least, but I got to agree that it looks interesting ^_^

You got a point... example TKD... the weakness of TKD as I see it is that it's mainly based on kicking when performed. But a skilled TKD practitioner has no problem with combining punches and kicks, while many beginners have big problems with this. And for WTF TKD most of the practitioners keeps their hands down!
In the club I'm in we have to keep the hands up, or the entire group gets a penalty (usually push-ups), which I think is great. Same with Kihap. Many people doing TKD, even people with black belt, has sissy (spelling?) Kihap's.

Good luck with that Hapkid now!
TAEKWON!!
