When you say "force it through his grab," do you mean you break his hold as you drive to the ground? I was taught to get in a Thai clinch and force or jump your leg through to where the hold is as close to your knee as possible and then quickly drive your foot forcefully to the ground, almost like jumping to kickstart a motorcycle. Is that close to what you're describing?
