I'm thinking improved diets, nutritional awareness and fitness activity are the reasons for preventable heart disease. Sure, some of heart disease factors are hereditary but over 10 years ago there was no Atkins, South Beach or other such diets. Food items like sushi were considered hideous and diet anything was usually laughed at. Fitness has become more mainstream as well.

Looking at the top five, the folks in Japan, Macau and Singapore are also probably some of the hardest working folk in the world, which seems like there are more negative stress factors coming into play? Are there unseen psychological factors that increase life expectancy?
