In the situation mentioned above he was on the hood of my SUV and jumping at me as I stepped out of the vehicle. I didn't even know he had a knife until after he hit the ground. Between his height in the air and his forward momentum it was an easy throw just by grabbing him and swing stepping.
At the time I thought he was going for my rifle.
It happened so fast I couldn't get my muzzle (M4) on him fast enough before he leaped at me.
