Default High Heart Rate

...I'm 22, my RESTING heart rate is about 111 and my bloodpressure is 120/80.

I am in pretty good physical condition, I am NOT a porker... I'm not cut either, but my physique now is about average to athletic...

I don't get winded easy, but when I do ANY type of exercise lately, my heart rate skyrockets to around 150 and I've pushed it past 200 on more than a dew occasions without really paying attention.

Somebody told me that this isn't only dangerous, but could possibly cause irreperable damage to my cardiac muscles and generally **** me in the long run.

Since, I have quit smoking, I rarely drink anymore...and I have been making all reasonable efforts to eat better (as well as I can being an indigent student.) Is there anything else, besides gradual successions (I feel like a fucking pussy, I want to push myself, but I also don't want to do damage if this person is right) in my cardio that will help?
