I would venture that you might be successful if your promoted image was sexy, but that you'd definitely be successful if you're rock solid and wipe the floor with your opponents. I mean, come on: this is a competitive combat sport. Winning your fights = success.
As for men taking women seriously, it's true that showing them a sexy picture doesn't make men think, "wow, hard core." But it's not meant to is it? It's meant to make the men pay to see the sexy ladies get sweaty; there is a level on which fights are all about the money. Not saying it's right. Not defending it. Just telling it like it is.
In my experience, the best way to make men take a woman seriously, is for her to work hard, keep a clear head, and not to take herself to seriously. But that's a recipe for respect for anyone isn't it? We're all just people when you come down to it.
