Both books lay down a theoretical education about the types of strength (e.g., limit strength, explosive power, speed, etc), and how each is developed. Same with the types of cardiovascular fitness, and how to develop the three energy systems. Then he goes through various exercises that develop all of the above, builds those into routines, and finally builds the routines into a 50 day plan. Not only is the entire system fantastic for any combat athlete, but he gives you enough information that you can tweak the whole thing to meet your own goals -- he considers the 50-day plan merely an example of how to apply the principles, and encourages you to tweak it to make it work for you.
