the hip is not being attacked, though. if you get put in that move, and you dont tap out, you are not gonna have a broken hip, you are going to pass out and possibly have an injured neck. the leg is grabbed to prevent the dude from squirming around and escaping, while at the same time providing superior leverage for the person applying the choke. people tap out to that technique cause they cant breathe, not because their hip is locked or attacked. grabbing on to that leg allows you to bend the opponents neck at an extreme angle.
