A new head of the FISA court was named by Chief Justice John Roberts. The new Judge will be Judge Bruce Selya, a former Rhode Island District Court Judge who has heard and ruled on cases such as Ungal vs. the Palestinian Authority. He seems like a capable judge with experience in handling terrorism related cases. That in itself is a rarity in American judicial circles. Also unique in the case of Selya is his propensity for colorful language. He tends to write decisions and papers as if writing prose, and he puts a lot of effort into making his writing very clear and accurate. Seems like a good choice. Here's one of the decisions he was a part of (the Ungar vs. PLO case)
USCA1 Opinion
Might do some Americans good to get familiar with this man, as he will be an integral part of future efforts to authorize domestic surveillance, to go after enemies of the State, and to set precedents for activities here at home.
