Yeah, it definitely depends on what you tend to wear. I work in suits, and so I'm almost always dressed in a jacket. When I'm off duty, I wear button-up shirts and jeans, and untucked, they cover my gun just fine.
I learned some tricks for carrying in shorts and a t-shirt that still work well - but I'm not tellin' here.
They still work for getting guns past metal detectors, too.
