Guys, I don't have a problem with grappling, I've done it myself for a couple years. It is absolutely necessary to know your way around but I don't think its the FIRST thing you should look for in a street situation, that's all. If locks, come up.....take them. I love the line "most fights end up on the ground". Yeah, and most fights are not one on one either. If that's the case, bad news going to the ground.

I've been in that situation. There were 3 people I was talking to, one guy took a swing at me (I had no idea it was even a fight at this point), clocked me and I grabbed him. We went to the ground and I mounted him. As I could have done anything I wanted, his buddy grabbed me by the throat and the other was behind me. I jumped up and thought it best to leave well enough alone. Granted, if I didn't know grappling, I would have gotten a beating. But if that's all I knew, it would have been bad to initially go for a take down (assuming I wanted to fight initially). Just an example.....even if you think its one on one, you never know where his buddies are.
