Ah, good explanation. Armed with that knowledge, I can respond with a firm 'I don't know' as I haven't every used that method. Unless you count our kata's. That's what we use to develop our own kata's, we imagine situations and combinations of moves to try and alleviate said situation. Once we form a scenario and practice the methods, then we get a live training parter who resists and see if our combimations work as well as we thought.
So, getting back to the point, it constitutes a small part of our training and is pretty useful to us.
