Dude I have lots of experience when it comes to Karate. I’ve taken many styles. Wado, shito, uechi are the main ones. My favorite is wado! Good philosophies lots of throws and good blocking/counters. Many more reasons that I don’t have time to write right now.

However I would not go by style. What do you want out of it? What do you want to contribute to it? I would find the best teacher and go with him/her and not be too particular about style. Example if you want to compete. Then find the school that has the most champs and is competition oriented. If self defense find one that’s self defense oriented. Be careful here. Make sure their reality based and do near full speed drills.
Deferent instructors conduct classes and emphasize things differently. It’s not necessarily about the style. It’s what fits you and what your goals are.

Look around visit and talk to the instructors (remember they want to sell you a membership, be aware). Watch some classes then decide. Don’t join the first school in the yellow pages or the first dojo you come too. Do research. You will be sorry if you don’t.

That said my true love is Muay Thai!
