ewod,
First of all, you need to separate fantasy from reality. I’m telling you this so that you don’t end bruised and beaten to a pulp — movie martial arts and real martial arts ARE NOT the same. When you figure this out, it doesn’t matter what anyone tells you. However, the fact that you associate movie fights with real fights tells me you have no knowledge of real martial arts or combat.
Demonstrations are just that, demonstrations... They do not reflect true combat which is sloppy and uncertain. Aikido, like any martial art, thrives on theories... Theoretically, in the martial arts, if you performed the correct manuever/technique at the correct time, place, etc... you could defeat an army. Theorectically, that is... In actuality, you don’t have the time, space or capacity to take down multiple opponents.
In conclusion, although people tend to associate martial arts with certain individuals, e.g. Bruce Lee – Kung-fu, a person’s actions speak for themselves. I don’t believe that many people see Steven Seagal as the authoritive or epitome of Aikido. Steven, like many stars, is his own ego.
