Thanks BFG. I've got carpetting and access to some good padding so I might be OK. I also like the model you showed. It seems that hanging from a properly anchored floor-standing frame would transmit much less impact to the floor than a bag that's built into the floor stand.
I'm also thinking I can just use it for practicing fast punching at medium strength, and save my heavy punches and kicks for the gym.
If the bag still causes trouble I guess I can always trade it in for a full-length mirror and take you up on the shadowboxing suggestion. Basically I'm looking for something productive to do during commercial breaks!
