I think you missed the point your instructor wished to make. From the first day in class you have been working the most important tool in your inventory, or you should have been anyway, which is your mind. In muay Thai we call it the 9th weapon. But it is the most important, and you should practice using it, because none of us will be with you when some clown on the street jumps you, or when you are getting pounded in the corner and the noise is too much for you to hear your cornerman. Just remember there is no wrong, it is just a drill. Now, it is just a drill...but maybe not tomorrow night. If your life is on the line you will have to use your mind or lose your life. And you will probably need more than 3 combinations.
