it depends on the nature of the fight...

if the reason for the fight were purely self-defensive, then if I got top I would just take off running... if I were on the bottom I would open up my guard, try to sweep the opponent while defending the strikes, and try to get back to my feet so i could run...

all the choke, armlock, etc. i would only use if i were defending someone else and had to finish the opponent because they wouldn't be able to escape, or if i were in an ego situation (not saying ego fights--for example with someone who took your girl or something--are justified, we should stay away from those... its just one of the only conceivable times i would use subs.)

as for multiple opponents, i've fought in multiple opponent fights and trust me--you don't want to go there!

there is no conceivable defense to multiple attackers except to run or use a weapon, all the fancy ninja sh-t they teach in some martial arts do not work in real fights against multiple attackers who have any athletic ability. Your bjj will help, because you won't give your back and might keep a good base etc., but still, you're going to take a beating because they will get a takedown and from there be ready to eat fists! If people with decent athletic ability can takedown martial artists without ground experience, then two people will do it easily...
