I find that Zen (The religion that isn't) is good for this.
It makes me sad when people forget the purpose of a religion and begin to see it as a seperate entity. When you do that you begin to assign value and worth to it, and then you begin to assign value and worth to everything in hierarchy.
Nothing is worth anything, not even ourselves. We are all just component parts of a big entity and are essentially the same. I may not look like a pencil but from my body you can make several pencils.
Toudy, do you have any rescources on Shinto, I'd like to learn more about it.

SHINTO WAS THE OFFICIAL JAPANESE GOVERNMANT RELIGION FOR 150 YEARS CULMINATING IN THE ATTEMPTED WORLD DOMINATION REFERRED TO AS WORLD WAR TWO. IT WAS USED AS AN EXTREME FORM OF FACISM AND RACISM. U.S PRISONERS OF WAR UNDER THE JAPANESE WERE 17 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO SUFFER DEATH THAN UNDER THE NAZI'S.SHINTO IS ALSO CALLED THE CULT OF THE SUN OR EMPEROR WORSHIP. IT RESULTED IN SUCH PLEASENTRIES AS THE RAPE OF NANKING ,THE BATAAN DEATH MARCH AND ULTIMATELY THE NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION OF HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI. IN SHINTO THEY WORSHIP SPIRITS OR KAMIS. SUCH AS KAMI-KAZIS. YOU KNOW AIRPLANES USED AS BOMBS IN SUICIDE MISSIONS. ISN'T THAT A NICE THING TO HONOR IN AN OLYMPIC SPORT.
IF YOU LIKE TO KNOW MORE ASK A JAPANESE INTELLECTUAL
ABOUT HOW ITWAS USED TO DEVASTATE THEIR COUNTRY AND CAUSE UNTOLD SUFFERING FOR LITERALLY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE
