I wouldn't put too much energy into a hook kick. Although it has a potential to knock out your opponent, it's a risky move.

But, how could you have done TKD for four years and not be sure of how to do a hook kick? You step up like a side kick, flex your foot like a round kick, then shoot it out and "hook" it back. That's it. For a spinning one, you merely turn feet back and fire it out like any other spinning kick.
