Music gives you a rythym to follow and move around. I like it for calesthenics and bsgwork. I'm not really fond of it when I'm sparring/grappling.
I have a playlist of Eye of the tiger, Seven nation army, Lose yourself, going the distance, and TNT. It's duration is about as long as my routine on a good day. I can then go running or swimming, but without the music.
