Question Will Tai Chi help my Boxin?

Im doin boxin for bout 3-4 monthes. And I kno dat when ya step on the ring its not dam the same like w streets, hell no. If u wont be focused n concentrated jus' on u, yo opp, da fight, n single 3 minutes, if u wont calm yoself down u'll b blind, u'll loose, u'll let someone to kick u in da face.
Tai Chi is also called: chinese yoga; the art of relaxation n concentration, so it got to help u w boxin.
What da ya think?

I think that you should at least make an attempt at proper grammar when you write.

As for whether or not Tai Chi would help your boxing, I can't really comment. It might make you more flexible, but I don't see it making you any more calm in the ring. Everyone has nerves, and the only thing that really gets rid of them is ring time.

It will not help your boxing, but it may well help the boxing done by your opponents.

Pretty much. If you want to be a good boxer, practice your boxing.

doesn't anybody believe in cross training?

that's not the response you'd get from Punong Guro/Professor Leonard Trigg or one of his main pupil's... Jeff PAtterson...

i've been training with him for over a year, and by far my boxing has improved BECAUSE of tai chi....

and you are definitely on the right track with concentration and relaxation....

but you'll need to find a good teacher if you're in portland look up Mr. Patterson at www.nwfighting.com

the fact you mentioned "chinese yoga" kind of bothers me. That definitely will NOT help you if you go to a gym that preaches all the life giving benefits of tai chi without the practical applications. and there are a ton of those schools like any other McDojo....

but i can't say enough, as far as power generation, connectivity, relaxation, awareness, coordination, Tai Chi helps with it all....

good luck to you, and i commend you for your open mindedness about training in other styles to improve your core training,
joe

hEmPY I think you need towear some head gear and work on blocking, the way you write I think you getting hit a hell of alot

tekshow: I know what you are saying but I wouldn't catagorize Tai Chi shools as "McDojos" if they do not teach application, the vast majority of taichi is not taught application. So it is not a lie that is the intention. But there are some schools that teach application and are garbage. The question is if he can find someone to teach application.

Generally, I don't think taichi is bad as supplimental training, it cetaining won't hurt your game

It would probably help with your connectivity and your ability to follow the movements of your opponent. May improve your punching power also.

Dunno really.

i spar with a boxer and he does tai chi for those reasons.

cheers
Chris

p.s - try aikido as well! ( just for you Bri!)

Tai Chi isn't hard but it is made for patient people; If ur not a patient person Tai Chi will b hard for ya; Ur only chance not to get mad bout it is to relax. And if u'll learn to relax when practisin martial art; if u'll learn to relax when you dont really want to u'll get on higher level and your basic martial art will b more easy to ya; jus' coz u could calm yoself down practisin sucha borin shit like tai chi, can't u calm yoself down fightin some amature asshole?

It will help if your opponent boxes in slow motion.
