Default Double-Edged Swords

I don't know if anyone here remembers but a few months back or so I won a match I had with one of my friends and I was really proud. He was in great physical shape and I still beat him even though I wasn't as big, or even as strong pound for pound. Then after that I kinda felt real good about myself as far as boxing is concerned and I kinda stopped training. Then today I had another match with someone else and I got beat pretty bad. He went against someone else after and he is not very good and I should have been able to beat him. If I had been training I know I could have taken him. So they are like both doubled edged swords. The first one made me feel real good but kinda made me stop training. This time I feel real stupid and silly for losing and getting beat so bad, I feel like a friggen pussy. But I think that might be just what I need to realize you gotta work at it, and get my ass back in training gear. Hmm I don't really think there is any point to this thread, no question being asked. Oh well. Any comments are welcome.

Well, at least you're honest.

Complacency beats more people than just about anything else. It happens at World Championship level too, in all sports. One, or even a thousand, good performance merely reflects the work you have done in the past. Using those results to think you don't have to train in the future is a sure recipe for a whuppin'.

As you found out..........

See how easily I went on you?

Default Next morning

It is now the next morning and I think the left side of my face is a tiny tiny bit swollen. The left side of my jaw kills. If I move my bottom jaw over to the right it kills. If I open my mouth too much, it kills. If I open my mouse all the way it makes a clicking noise at the end. How long will I be like this?

Default Training

Now I need to get my ass training again. I've got a bunch of weights, a bench with a lat tower and leg extension attachment, I have a chin-up bar, I have a heavy bag, I have focus mitts, I have an axe, I have a jump rope, and I've got some people that will help me train. Anyone have a good routine I can do?

Nope. I just sorta gotta train at home

And relating to what I've read that you have said numerous times, I've never really been taught very very well, so I'm not gonna be too proficient training at home. But I think if I get a good routine and train hard I can still make myself a lot better then if I didn't train at all.

True. I have a video by a JKD guy called Rick Young. He's released a few, and this one is about bag work. Its a great introduction to both bagwork AND the basic boxing blows. Get that, or something like that, and you will develop to a reasonable level considering your predicament. But it will be hard to get an appreciation of timing and the application of the blows you develop so, if I was you, I'd bump up my stamina through exercise and just explode at your opponents.

He's at www.rickyoung.co.uk

He's also a Brown Belt at BJJ and recently won a competition when he went to the States. In fact he is proficient in a great many arts.

The bagwork itself will increase your fitness. The weights can increase your size, and running (both long slow runs, as well as interval work) can give you the cardio.

By the way, who referees these bouts? Are you sure that what you are doing is safe?

Yeah, Turing, I agree with Thai Bri...you gotta get some schooling in the "sweet science" if there is any type of boxing or kick-boxing, or MuayThai gym in your area, go get some proper instruction from a trainer. Locals Boys clubs and YMCA's might also have some boxing programs, often not charging much if anything. I paid $5 a week when I was a youngster, when I couldn't afford that Goody Petronelli let me sweep up and empty the trash after the gym closed to pay my way....there are good videos out there Rob Kaman, Vut Kamnark, etc. which can be beneficial, but will never replace a trainer's watchful eye. Keep up with your road work and conditioning though...it's important for your success in the ring. Good luck.

Turing: if you e-mail me, I'll e-mail you back a pretty good gym routine using the stuff you have at home already AND I'll try to find someplace for you to train in your area (depending on where that is) Peace.
