Default Bad Eyes But want to Box.

I can't get licensed to box because my eye sight will not pass the mandatory eye sight test. But my friend tells me I can wear my contacts to the doctor's office, therefore pass the test, and fool the guy. Apparently he's a real idiot. I've been wanting to do this my whole life. My eyes have always kept me out of it. Everytime I would see some blind guy on the street or something I wouldn't want to go and train, because my eye sight is really bad. But I can see with my eye contacts/soft lenses. Thinking about fighting has just about become an obsession for me now. I can't get it out of my head. For the last couple of years I've been obsessing over wether I should fight or not, because of my eyes. I don't know any other way to cool the storm and questions I have had in my head for too long now. What should I do?

You should grow up and accept the fact that you cannot box competitively.

Get into another art.

How bad is bad in terms of eyesight?

Can you see well enough to slip punches? If so, you could still train.

Right eye = -7 Left eye = -7.5

This is what I mean by bad. Without my contacts I can't see s***. I could box/fight with my contacts on, that's an option I was thinking about. But I can't help but think that because my vision is so "low" in the first place, I would be more prone to eye injuries wether I wear contacts or not. But I still want to fight, it's a tough one. Just thought I would get some insight from fellow boxers on this site.

My eyes are worst then yours. I wear contacts when I fight and sometimes they fall out when hit and sometimes they don't. When they do, I have no choice but to pause b/c I can't see anything. Surgery is not recommended if you are gonna fight b/c apparently the surgery makes the retina thinner. However, I don't think people like you are I will be able to apply for professional fighting licenses....I am not sure about that.

Dude, do yourself a favor and forget about boxing competitively. NOTHING is worth risking what little sight you have. A detached retina is one of the EASIEST things to get once you get hit in the head a coupla good shots. This condition happens to people with EXCELLENT eyesight!
I do sympathize with you however, because for many years( until I had surgery) I had eyesight so terrible that I had seeing eye dogs laughing at me!
Nevertheless, in spite of my poor eyesight, Even though I couldnt compete at a certain level ( I had dreams of glory like you also) I was able to spar in class and compete competitively in intramurals and to a limited degree in competition.
As a person with low level eyesight, I felt that more than anyone else, I would be a prime target for bullies and lowlifes who would target me as being the easiest target(Im happy to say that MANY of them found out how wrong they were!!)
I suggest you do what I did....seek out arts that require you develop your SENSITIVITY more than relying on your sight. Examples that come to mind are WING CHUN, WRESTLING/GRAPPLING, KALI ( the empty hands component) and SILAT.
In all of the arts I've mentioned, the "fight begins" when you are in close range making contact with another person. Grappling might be the best art for you, whether it be BJJ, Greco Roman, or even Judo. Sensitvity is something you can only get better at. USE YOUR ATTRIBUTES and dont give up.
As for boxing, if you feel you MUST do this, then train your infighting game. Seek to excel in that area. Develope your fighting skills in the clinch using muay thai elbows, knees, joint locks, etc. Theres no reason why you should let your poor eyesight hinder you from developing yourself as a martial artist. I know I didnt.

With eyesight that appalling I would suggest giving up the dream, however dear you hold it, of boxing competitively as you will simply get pummelled senseless if you get into the ring and can't see whats going on. The eye test exists for a reason, to stop people getting unneccessarily hurt in the ring, something that will happen to you if you lie your way into the ring.
