Tyson.....comeback.....or C'mon

What do you think does Tyson have the youth to rekindle his old abbilities and take himself to the top or just more ratings with no namers for the PPV money?

It depends.

At one time, Tyson was a well focused, highly disciplined punching machine who listened to his corner & father figure, Cus D.

Now that he doesn't have that, he's become reckless and volatile. His defense isn't the same as the good old days - probably because his training with cus stopped. However, he can still throw some explosive bombs.

Tyson's biggest enemy is his own inner demons. If he can get the right team together to keep him in the ring, out of the street and get him hungry again he will start to earn popular respect in boxing.

As much as I dislike Tyson or wait I don't dislike him but I've always thought he was overrated because he was a THUG. I have to agree with you the man has talent, no doubt about it. I think I dunno (just going on gut instinct) but I think were going to see tyson stage a comeback.

I say stick a fork in him...he's done. Anyone who has ever watched him fight can clearly see that he is not even close to what he used to be. Honestly, I think he needs psychiatric help and I was his biggest fan back in the day. I am not to clear on the protocol to get licensed to fight but I wonder if there is a mental exam along with the physical. Just a thought...

Tyson in his prime losses by an accident, by luck to his opponent. Today he's no way worst then all this so called champions. Im damn sure he'd own Ruiz, and that guy is a champ, wtf?
Id rather see him in k1 then boxing, though

I think he's done as well. He may be better than most, but it's only because he was so good back then and it hasn't all worn off yet. I don't think he can or will get his act together to train for boxing or anything else.


By the way, New Jersey (I think) made him take a psych evaluation for his license which he passed. I'm pretty sure there is a thread around here with a link to it....

Done. At the age of 38.... yeah, that's about right. The shame of it is that he's put himself in a position where he's got no future, unlike other pugilists who've indicated possession of even just a few more gray cells...

Yes. I think we can all agree that Tyson ain't much of a role model, no matter how great of a boxer he might have been.

Mike still is one of the most dangerous punchers in the world, even in his age. Although his skills are not the same due to his jail time, personal mistakes(lack of training, entourage, etc.) and above all, age. I believe if he gets his discipline back and trains with a exceptional training team, he could still be champion, especially right now. The heavyweight class is not as strong as it use to be, and now with Lennox Lewis retired, I personally do not see any great challenge to Tyson(Although I cannot see into the hearts and souls of every Heavyweight to truly see what they are made of-i.e. James "Buster" Douglas).

If he could win the championship at his age, it would definitely help reestablish himself among the greatest, and to go down as one of the 3 to 5 greatest heavyweights in boxing history.

My point is that all boxers eventually retire from boxing and go on to other pursuits at what most people would consider to be a relatively young age. There'll be years and years yet ahead for him. What are Mike's prospects? Acting? Coaching? Preaching? Selling Mean Lean Grilling Machines on TV? Skulking in deserted parking lots and dark alleyways for the next likely target? What's going to keep Mike out of trouble?

This is really the heart of it. Clearly he was one of the greatest boxers ever, and if he could get it together he could still be very formidable. If he could get his act together he wouldn't be the tabloid story that he is now. He can't though, or he'd be doing it.
I think Oso is correct - he's more likely to end up back in jail than making any kind of meaningful comeback.

OK I know i started this thread and I've seen some of Tysons fight but (cause I'm lazy)......Has Tyson ever fought anyone (and won) that was worthy of making him the one of the best boxers ever? I'm going to say here I can't recall anyone but I'm about to look it up. I seriously would never say he was/is one of the best boxers ever. Maybe the most conterversial and flashiest (form his quick KOs earlier in his career) but that by no means places you in the best ever?

Aiight I just looked up some stats (I know just paper) but he won the title from Larry holmes .........but that was after he'd been fighting and looks like well past his prime. I have never seen the fight so I'm kinda concluding from paper stats here but Larry won the title in '78 and tyson fought him 10 years later in 88. Has he ever fought a reputable boxer that was in their prime and won? I don't think that he has. I'm not trying to take anything away from him but I don't think the competition was ever there when Tyson was in his prime so that he could really be tested. I'm just trying to say I think hes a far cry from being in the "best ever" category. What do you guys tihnk?
