Anyone see the movie recently?

I saw it. Thought it was a helluva movie. You can tell that Hillary Swank was legitimately trained as a boxer; was on a talk show and said that she really enjoyed boxing training and even spars. Allthough the fights may have been choreographed, she pulled off alot of classic moves both offensively and defensively.

There's a scene where she moves up in weight division and rank and gets her nose broken badly; realistically if it was broken that badly her corner would have called the fight to protect her. She might have taken a loss but won a rematch.

Also that scene where "Danger" the slow, uncoordinated white guy gets beat up by that other fighter, who then takes on the retired coach was a realistic fight scene. The guy who bullied danger was probably something of a ranked amateur taking on the experienced retired pro-fighter/trainer.

The fighter/trainer takes the bully's onslaught with good footwork and times a mean counter right hook that knocks the bully guy to the floor and out - total fight time about 30 seconds.

Whomever choreographed and directed these fight scenes knows boxing and fighting........Mike, are you working on films lately? Just Kiddin'.

My girlfriend and I saw it, a few weeks back, when we couldn't decide on anything else to see. I'd never heard about it and didn't know anything about it, except that my girlfriend told me it was about women's boxing, which sold me. It was one of the best movies I've seen in ages, although by the end my girlfriend was boo-hooing so inconsolably that I thought she might dehydrate. Definitely deserves best picture, although I'd have to give best actor to Jamie Fox for "Ray." I especially liked how Hillary Swank's character noticably improved on her footwork and bag work as the movie progressed, much more subtle than a "Rocky" style montage.

Don't forget that Swank previously trained with the best: none other than Mr. Miyagi himself!!

I found it very inspirational and made me want to take up boxing training. I hit the heavy and speed bag at the healthclub but I think I'll check out some local boxing places and see what it costs.
