    Fighting Mentality

well sparred with my instructor today, for first time. Not super hard hits or anything. But i noticed a few things.

    1. It was like impossible to land a clean shot
    2. i found it hard to even string a basic combo
    3. It seemed like i was concentrating on jsut even throwing a punch not even connecting, cause i was busy watching out for getting hit.

    4. he said i had really good hand discipline though........................so i got that goin for me

    any thoughts.?

He's the instructor, you sound like a beginner or novice. Keep Sparring.. Find as many different people to spar as you can.

yeah i definitlyu will im not discouraged im excited lol.

Only thing i was worried about would be my inability to hit even other novices, u know finding the openings and stuff. So ill keep training does anyone know what helped them learn to string combo's together and stuff besides the obvious keep sparring ,in the heat of battle?

I just realized that this is the boxing forumn and not the martial arts forumn. You need a good trainer to show you the ropes. Do your bag work; heavy bag, speed bag, timing ball, focus mitts, medicine bag, jump rope, and do your road work. Take your time and don't rush yourself.

don't be gun-shy when sparring your instructor, you're cheating yourself. Just do what you do with the other guys, do it clean, and do it right, and box him, don't be thinking about how much more skilled an opponent is, just think he's the opponent, watch the chest, and pop pop pop.

    Isn't boxing a 'martial art'?

Or locks throws, takedowns. Boxing has it's own philosophy and I would compare their shadow boxing to ma kata.
