Default straight punches costing more energy?

Hey guys.
When I work the heavy bag all kinds of hooks work really good for me, I can really use my body and legs, and I feel I can go at it forever and not get tired.
But the straight punches (not including jab), really make me tired. It's like I'm finding it hard to use my body, my arms cannot be semi relaxed they way they can when I throw a hook. Of course, with a hook the arm angles are pretty static, you just rotate your hips and you get good power. But with straight punches the arm angles change a lot during the punch. Maybe this is why.

Anyway, my question is how it is for you guys, do your straight punches feel as relaxed and "cost effective" as your hooks?
I think I have worked a lot more on hooks than straight punches, so maybe I just need more bag work with straight punches... Can straight punches be as cost effective as hooks?
Please advice

Fist it's the opposite for me

hook punches actually cost me more energy and I feel I'm open to counter punches when I throw hooks even though my guard is up. I like to stay in the center of the ring throw out jabs and let my opponent chase me with his punches so I can just counter punch him at the right time.I will not let someone put me on the ropes so he an batter me with hooks and I don't like to do much in fighting because I always end up getting hit with some unseen punch when I in the corner. I'm a southpaw and I always end up playing "footsie" when my oppomnent tries to put his lead foot outside of mine, many sparring sessions have turned into the battle of the feet. If hooks work better for you than that's good but make sure to work your straight punches as much as your hooks. A powerful cross or overhand can end a fight instantly.I prefer straight punches to hooks but in a pinch I'll throw anything that works. Most fights probably start in hook range instead of straight punch range so your sucker punch should definately be a hook.Practice throwing it with your hands down at your side and utilizing nontelegraphic movement, wear the smallest gloves either mma or old school bag gloves to get that bare knuckle type of feeling while still protecting your hands. Many untrained fighters throw hooks from long distance but are actually successful doing so, trained fighters seem to be used to fighting people who throw "proper" hooks and aren't able to cope with someone who throws unorthadox punches.A good example of bad hooks working in a fight would be the show toughman that use to be on FX. These people had zero defensive skills and few if any punching skills but still fought with some success. The biggest problem with throwing hooks from the wrong distance is it leaves you open for many types of counter punches. Look at mma how many times has a skilled puncher been ko'ed buy a guy who can't punch worth s***. Lots of times, here's how it happens: the guys punches are so bad he doesn't know the difference between a straight punch and a hook but, he just starts throwing and bam he catches the skilled puncher square on the jaw.Kind makes you think. I still belive that your better off training than not training, but don't underestimate anyone in a street fight.

When you hit the bag with a straight punch you are actually able to hit much harder. Maybe your getting tired more quickly because you're hitting harder. Also you said you had problems aligning your body. That will come with practice, you just need to use your hips.

You're using your arms too much in your straights, that's why. Get your body more behind them with trigger steps, and you'll see it's virtually the same.

IF you are not as comfortable throwing straights as hooks, you may also not be allowing yourself to be as relaxed as you should. If you are over tensing yourself, it will wear you out faster.
