    double ended ball

I was wondering how these are used (ie drills) and in what way they help you. Is it an effective training method? Or would a speed bag do more for me.

Double End Ball and Speed Bag

    Hello Bil_Jee101

The Double End Bag (DEB) and Speed Bag (SB) are similar as light bags, but slightly different in their function and purpose. They both have a "rebound" pattern, but the speed bag is louder since it hits a board. The rebound is when they move back and forth after being struck. Even the DEB has a pattern and "rhythm" to its movement. Each goes in the exact direction the fist sends it, and both allow you to move around it as you hit, although movement is usually great on the DEB.

But there are two main differences. Usually you can adjust a DEB higher and lower than a speed bag by either changing or adjusting the cords, and you can put multiple bags on one cord for several targets. http://store.titleboxing.com/doubdoubendb.html
    or http://store.titleboxing.com/2indoubendba.html
The speed bags area for adjustment is a much less and you cannot double hang two bags from one swivel. (although two boards side by side is a challenge. )

Second, and more important is the rebound arc itself. The DEB is variable, and the speed bag is fixed. No matter how hard you hit the speed bag, it rebounds in the same arc and distance because it is fixed to the swivel. You don't have to adjust your distance or worry about being hit by the rebound ( if you don't lean in, that is. we all get bonked on the nose occasionally ) because the bag is fixed, and the distance it travels does NOT change, the speed bag (IMO) is superior for connecting repetitive fist and elbow techniques together in non-stop combinations, and to do it faster and faster by using smaller bags, which go faster than larger ones. This is very difficult on the DEB because the harder you hit it, the further it moves and longer the rebound time. Speed Bag also allows people who cannot use a normally fighting stance to get a great punching workout (people in a wheelchair ). http://www.speedbagcentral.com/Rehab...bTraining.html

The DEB rebound arc (distance) varies, in that the harder you hit it, the longer the arc and the more time it takes to complete it's "rebound". You can use this to practice adjusting your distance by visually reacting to the rebound or recoil of the bag, and also practice "slipping" the bag, by angling your body and head "slighlty" to allow the bag to miss. This can help you learn to not overreact when a "fist" ( or the bag ) comes hurling your way. It is a little more realistic for defense purposes in that the bag will hit you back if you don't adjust your body distance with each punch.
