Don't forget about sprinting hills and such. The reasoning appearently being because a hill is so much explosive work in so little time it effectively trains your body to generate lots of power from an "exhausted" state. Picture this, you run for two miles to get warmed up, then sprint the hills (but jog down) multiple times, and end with another mile or two jog (make a routine to suit you). The theory above fits well in any sport: hockey, soccer, basketball, and even boxing/MA. You work really hard throughout the whole game, but when you get the initiative to break out, you need to do so with all your strength. This will help to have that "strength" waiting for you, ready to use.

Another thing a friend does with a coach is running intervals on the track. He'll sprint one half length (so 1/8 mi.?) of the track, full sprint, and at the other end shadow box to the very best of his ability for a set amount of time (15 seconds? 30 seconds? I don't remember). Then his coach will call out and he will sprint back to the other end and repeat. This also works explosive power in prolonged fatigue state I believe.

So theres two more options to very up training. Be sure to research the methods before doing them though. Maybe you will hear of a way of getting injured doing this stuff before you even start.
