Hey Bro,
You're talking about a passbook. It's strictly amateur, and one will be issued to you, along with a medical record you'll need to affix your photo to and fill out beofre you submit it with your application. All this stuff goes along with your registration with USA Boxing. If you currently work out at a gym, just ask the coaches there if they can get you registered. As far as I know, there's no easy way to go about this proces unless you're signed up and training at a USA Boxing affiliated gym, as part of your membership information is filling in which LBC (Local Boxing Commission, I think) or club you're a part of. As I remember, it's about $40 to register, and you'll need two passport photos when you do the paperwork - one for the medical card and one for the passbook itself.

The passbook is little more than a written account of your fight record. You'll turn it in to the officials when you compete, usually at the weigh in. They will keep it for the duration of the competition, or until you finish your scheduled bout. In it, they will record the date, location, and other pertinent info about your match, along with whether you won or lost and how. You'll get it back, and turn it in to the officials at the next event and so on. Amateur competitions sanctioned by USA Boxing or the IABA will not let you compete without your passbook, as it verifies your standing as a registered athlete, and keeps people from cheating by claiming they are less experienced than they are.

You can find a USA Boxing affiliate on the web without much difficulty, or simply ask around at your local gym. Someone will undoubtedly be able to point you in the right direction.

Mike
