i alternate between a pair of 16oz gloves one workout and just wrapped hands the next......working on (as mike said) snapping my punches with bare hands and the gloves for endurance and speed......weights are a bad idea when punching especially for the elbows and shoulders.....try isometric contractions against a wall emulating a jab , left and right hooks and straight right if you want to develop power....push and hold against a wall/door jam for 20 sec per arm standing in fighting position.

Red face

Are thier washable gloves? It would be such a shame if thier weren't. I suppose that keeping them next to a vent or something so that air is always going over them, this will help to dry them out and will consequently cut down on the stench.

Personally I like using "Baby Kittens" they tend to give you that fighting feel as you punch through the air with them one in each had. It's as if you arre really fighting someone.

Of course I am kidding, was just bored.

Your body "remembers" the mechanics you drill most. If your arms are being forced to start slowly because you're carrying weights, then you'll end up punching the same way when you take the weight out of your hands. It feels faster becasue the resistance isn't there, but watch on video and you'll see it. Shadowboxing with weights slows you down, and the only muscle it does any good for is the tops of your shoulders. Advice on using weight? Get a pair of 16 oz gloves and wear those. They're a pound apiece, and they're plenty for developing arm endurance.

For glove funk, the easiest answer is to invest in a second pair of gloves and alternate which ones you use. Hand wraps will also cut a lot of that fnk down because they'll absorb the sweat that your gloves are sucking up right now. You could also get a glove dryer (or make one). It's just a PVC "tree" that allows you to put your gloves on the end of two of the pipes and blow them dry with a fan or blow dryer funneled up through the main pipe. Once you get them dry, use a pair of those glove dogs that everyone sells, and wrap your hands. As soon as finances allow, get a second set of gloves.
Mike,
What about 1 pound little dumbells? The kind that aerobics ladies use? Same weight as the gloves so you'll still be able to work your snap and fast twitch? Fits really easy in your hand when you make a fist.

I think you should try 16 oz, golves then build up with weights to improve hand speed n power. I use to have like 4 pd weights n threw a 100 punches in each arm.
