Default no access to a heavy bag...what am i missing?

hey all

i dont have access to a heavy bag due to space constraints at my place but i do have a training partner that can hold the pads for me(thai & focus) whenever i want. what will i gain only doing this and what will i lose out on?

I'm wondering the same thing, as my gym has only two heavy bags set up.
Is it so that the heavy bag is very good for developing power in your punches, something that much harder on pads? This is how I feel at least... I like to work a technique on the heavy bag to find how to get the maximum power. I do this for a good while with kicks or punches, and I couldn't ask a partner to hold the pads for that long.
So do boxers develop power mainly by hitting the heavy bag (assuming they already have correct technique)?
