I like the power jab too.
You dont always have to jab the same way. In some instances, where your hands and the rest of your body are located, could prevent some types of jabs and dictate others.
Many trainers will tell you of 7, 11, or more types of jabs.

i think that you should use whatever is there....use a few fast jabs to see how the guy reacts to it and if you can tag him with it....throw a few hard ones to see how he reacts.You dont want to overcommit and throw a hard strike right away...the guy might telegraph the punch and counter it.
